When I am Among the Trees

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, "It’s simple," they say,
"and you too have come

玛丽·奥利弗(Mary Oliver, 1935-2019年1月17日)，当今美国诗人，以书写自然著称。 1935年9月10日生于俄亥俄州枫树岭， 13岁开始写诗 1952年枫树岭高中毕业。1953年前往纽约。并与诗人诺玛米利认识并与诗人的姐姐成为好朋友。

2019年1月17日，玛丽·奥利弗因淋巴瘤病逝于家中，享年83岁。
