Blur在1989年组建于伦敦,最初起名为Seymour.经过了大量的演出并录制了一盘样带后,乐队签约于EMI的子公司Food唱片,并在公司负责人的建议下将更名为Blur。

最初,Blur是众多Stone Roses时期的英国乐队之一.风格属于迷幻的流行吉他,只是没有嘈杂的吉他.随着90年代初期翻唱风的盛行,小组成为英国最受欢迎的乐队之一,并奠定其继the Kinks,the Small Faces,the Who,the Jam,the Madness,和the Smiths之后英国的guitar-pop风格的继承人的地位。在这个过程中,小组创立了一种被称做Brit-pop的新的风格,乐队歪曲的歌词及对英国流行风格的准确把握使其成为了Brit-pop的领头人,但是Blur很快就几乎被运动限制住了,因为他们使最主要的乐队,所以当运动进行不下去时乐队也几乎支撑不下去了.通过一些混合了indie-rock和lo-fin的重新创作,在90年代末,作为一支art-pop乐队,Blur重新振作起来并在97年在美国取得了巨大的成功.不过乐队以前的风格还是在英国保留了下来.通过巧妙的为本国的流行风格注入新的元素,他们重新振兴了guitar- pop并将它带入了90年代.
