如果说西方摇滚乐是由猫王意外奇迹般地缔造的话，那么，给摇滚乐这一神话画上一个悲壮句号的，则是柯特·科本。1994年4月5日，柯特用一颗子弹结束了生命。一个才华横溢者倒在了后现代荒芜的地平线上。摇滚乐评人郝舫说：“在柯特·科本激昂的音乐背后, 包含着很多无法解脱的痛苦,就像我们读过的海子的诗。因为太理想化了,不愿意向现实妥协,所以变得太脆弱,太敏感。”虽然在通常意义上和世俗情形上，柯特·科本看上去貌似自杀，而实则正是那只无形的黑手残酷而急骤地剥夺了这个超敏脆弱而极易受伤的生命。柯特·科本在遗书中写道，我已经没有任何激情了，It’s better to burn out than fade away（与其苟延残喘，不如从容燃烧）
