Lobo（灰狼罗伯）于1961年加入The Rumors，开启了他的音乐生涯。1971年5月，罗伯发表了个人首张专辑《Introducing Lobo》，1972年的第二张专辑《Of A Simple Man》，是他在美国市场上最畅销的专辑，也是他唯一曾经打进过专辑榜前一百名的作品，虽然最高名次只拿到第三十七名，但是却成功的为他在国际上打开了知名度。1973年，罗伯推出了他的第三张专辑「Calumet」，其中第一首单曲「It Sure Took a Long, Long Time」在美国的排行榜获得第二十七名，而紧接着推出的第二首单曲「How Can I Tell Her」更受欢迎，拿到第二十二名。罗伯以温柔的歌声，唱出了一个「脚踏两条船」的男子心中的仿徨，这首歌曲获得了天下男性广大的回响，因此可说是红遍了全球。
1981年，罗伯创立了自己的独立品牌「Lobo唱片」，并且签下了几位乡村歌手，偶而他自己也会再度录音。那一年年底，他以哥哥罗杰所谱写的单曲「I Don't Want To Want You」头一次打进乡村排行，不过只拿到第四十名。接着，他又陆续推出过另外两首单曲，也都打进了乡村排行，但名次也都不是很理想。在结束营业之前，他还曾经跟旗下几位歌手合作，共同以「狼群」（Wolfpack）合唱团的名义，发行了单曲「Bull Smith Can't Dance The Cotton-Eyed Joe」。除了经营自己的公司，他也为一些别的乡村歌手担任制作，成绩倒还不错，乔史坦普利（Joe Stampley）和克莉丝蒂蓝（Christy Lane）都在排行榜上名列前茅。
